25 Days of Merry Day 20: “White Christmas”

As previously announced here, each day I will be posting a film to get you in the Christmas spirit. Each film is picked strategically based on what I believe will excite you closer and closer to the big day.

This is probably the last film you may have never seen that I can introduce you to, and that’s ok.

This 1950’s American classic is a holiday musical jamboree that features little story but a lot to watch. It tells the story of a traveling duo that team up with a sister act to save the Inn of their former general from the army.

It features the legendary names of Bing Crosby, who is known across the any Christmas spotify playlist. As well as Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney. It is iconic in my world for its extravagant musical numbers and songs. Like I said, there is little to no story to appreciate that fills its run time, and about two musical numbers actually advance the plot in a way. But it’s beautiful to look at and enjoy, which is all you sometimes need at the Holiday season.

The holiday season is a fun time to introduce people to classic cinema, much like why I loved 31 days of Terror to introduce readers to classic horror. The holidays are something that has expanded over film for now 120 years and it’s nice to discover that history over the holiday season.
